As of May 6, 2024, Senegal enforces strict import bans and restrictions to protect public health, safety, and national security. Importers must comply with these rules to avoid seizure, fines, or legal action.

❌ Prohibited Imports

The following goods cannot be imported into Senegal under any circumstances:

• 🐓 Uncooked Poultry Products – Ban in place since the late 2000s, even though not officially reported to the WTO.

• 💊 Narcotics & Hallucinogenic Drugs – Except for those medically authorized by the Ministry of Health.

• 🔫 Munitions & War Ammunition – Except licensed collectors’ items.

• 📚 Pornographic Publications – All forms of obscene or explicit content are prohibited.

Senegal Vehicle Import Restrictions – Updated Regulations

If you’re planning to import a used vehicle into Senegal, you must comply with the country’s strict age and type restrictions to avoid fines, rejection at customs, or seizure of your shipment.

❌ Banned Vehicle Categories

The following used vehicles cannot be imported into Senegal unless exempted by law:

• 🚘 Private Cars – More than 8 years old from the date of manufacture.

• 🚚 Commercial Vehicles – Fully loaded weight under 3.5 tons and over 8 years old.

• 🚌 Passenger Vehicles – With 7 or more seats and over 8 years old.

• 🚛 Heavy Goods Vehicles – Fully loaded weight over 3.5 tons and more than 10 years old.

• 🏍 Used Cycles & Mopeds – With engine capacity ≤ 50cc.

✅ Exemptions Allowed

No exemptions apply except in the following cases:

1. Returning Senegalese Officials Abroad – Private vehicles over 8 years old may be imported if owned by Senegalese officials returning home from overseas.

2. Transit Shipments – Vehicles discharged in Senegal but destined for another country (e.g., Mali, Gambia).
