When shipping to the Dominican Republic, there are some import restrictions and prohibitions to be aware of:

• 🌾 Agricultural products – Require discretionary import licenses from the Ministry of Agriculture (and the Ministry of Public Health/DIGEMAPS for dairy products). These licenses are used to limit imports of items that compete with domestic production.

• 🚗 Older automobiles – Importation of cars older than 5 years is prohibited.

• 🚚 Commercial vehicles – Import of pick-up trucks, light trucks, and other transport vehicles older than 15 years is prohibited.

• 👕 Used clothing – Importation of used clothing is banned, although this rule is often loosely enforced.

• ❌ Older vehicles – Importation of cars older than 5 years and trucks or goods vehicles older than 15 years is prohibited.

• ❌ Used clothing vehicles – Importing vehicles designed for transporting used goods is restricted.

• ❌ Salvage or non-repairable vehicles – Cars with salvage, scrap, or non-repairable titles are not allowed.

• ⚠️ Import permits – All vehicle imports require an Import Permit from Dominican Customs.

• ⚠️ Emissions and safety compliance – Vehicles must meet the country’s emissions standards and road safety regulations.

• ⚠️ Duties and taxes – Importers must pay customs duties, VAT, and other applicable taxes based on the vehicle’s value and engine size.
