When shipping goods to Jamaica, it’s essential to be aware of the country’s import restrictions and prohibited items:

• 🌾 Agricultural products – Require discretionary import licenses from the Ministry of Agriculture (and the Ministry of Public Health/DIGEMAPS for dairy products). These licenses are often issued to protect local farmers and limit imports that compete with domestic production.

• 🚗 Older vehicles – Importation of automobiles over 5 years old and goods transport vehicles (e.g., pick-up trucks, light trucks) over 15 years old is strictly prohibited.

• 👕 Used clothing – Importation of used clothing is officially banned, although this restriction is not always strictly enforced.

• Age Limits:

  • Cars: Vehicles older than 5 years (based on the year of manufacture) cannot be imported.

  • Trucks & Goods Vehicles: Vehicles used for transporting goods (e.g., pick-up trucks, light trucks) older than 15 years are prohibited.

• Right-Hand Drive:

  • Only right-hand drive vehicles are allowed for road use in Jamaica. Left-hand drive vehicles require special exemptions.

• Salvage or Damaged Titles:

  • Vehicles with non-repairable, salvage, or scrap titles are not permitted for import.

• Special Import Permits:

  • An Import Permit from the Jamaica Trade Board Limited (JTB) is required before shipping a vehicle.
