Understanding Guatemala’s import restrictions is critical for staying compliant with customs and regulatory laws. Below is a breakdown of prohibited items, banned substances, and regulated goods.

The Department for the Control of Arms and Munitions (DECAM) under the Guatemalan Ministry of Defense strictly enforces regulations on weapons:

• Prohibited:

  • High-powered firearms

  • Military-grade weapons and equipment

• Exceptions:

  • Importation is only permitted for official government use

📌 DECAM maintains full authority over licensing and enforcement.

• Banned Substance:

  • Pseudoephedrine and all products containing pseudoephedrine

• Effective Since: April 2009

• Import & Sale: Fully prohibited in Guatemala

🔍 This includes over-the-counter cold medications and decongestants that contain pseudoephedrine.

The Technical Directorate of Plant Health (Dirección Técnica de Sanidad Vegetal) under MAGA (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food) oversees the importation and regulation of agrochemicals:

Prohibited Vehicle Types

• Right-Hand Drive Vehicles: The importation of right-hand drive vehicles is prohibited. Only left-hand drive vehicles are permitted.
