Importing vehicles into Peru is allowed, but only under strict rules related to vehicle age, emissions, condition, and documentation.

📆 1. Age Restrictions

Peru has strict limits on the age of imported vehicles:

⚠️ The vehicle’s year of manufacture is what matters — not the model year.

🛑 2. Used Vehicles

• Importing used passenger cars older than 2 years is prohibited for private individuals.

• Used commercial vehicles are allowed up to 5 years, but require special registration and permits.

• Salvaged, rebuilt, flood-damaged, or irreparable vehicles are strictly banned.

• Vehicles previously declared a total loss in another country cannot be imported.

🧪 3. Emissions & Safety Standards

• Must meet Euro III emissions standards or better (gasoline & diesel)

• Must pass technical inspection and emissions control once in Peru

• Catalytic converters and safety features must be intact

🔄 4. Steering Orientation

• Only left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles are allowed

• Right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles are not permitted, even with conversion
