• 🍸 Absinthe – Only permitted if compliant with Egypt’s strict alcoholic beverage regulations.

• 🔥 Matches Containing White Phosphorus – Prohibited due to safety and toxicity concerns.

• 🍽 Ceramic Tableware with Excessive Lead Content – Glazes exceeding the maximum permissible lead levels are banned for public health protection.

• 💎 Jadeites or Rubies from Myanmar – Whether loose or set in jewelry, these gemstones are prohibited if sourced from Myanmar.

Vehicle Import Regulations – Egypt (Updated 2025)

When importing vehicles into Egypt, it’s important to comply with the country’s strict automotive import rules to avoid delays, fines, or cargo seizure. These regulations apply to passenger cars, motorcycles, electric vehicles, and hybrids, with specific provisions for foreign investors and trade agreements.

❌ Restrictions on Used Passenger Vehicles

• Egypt prohibits the import of used passenger vehicles.

• Only brand-new vehicles manufactured within one year of import are allowed.

• Foreign investors may import one vehicle duty-free for private use in the year of manufacture with prior approval from the Chairman of the General Authority for Investments and Free Zones (GAFI).

🏍 Motorcycles & Three-Wheel Vehicles

Under a May 2014 Ministry of Trade and Industry decree, the following rules apply:

• Banned: Importation of motorcycles and three-wheel vehicles (CBUs – Completely Built Units).

• Allowed:

  • Tricycles

  • SKD (Semi Knocked Down) motorcycle chassis

  • Engines for assembly and trade

• This ban remains in effect today.

⚡ Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Rules

• Under Presidential Decree 419 of 2018, full customs fee exemptions apply to fully electric vehicles.

• Tariff discounts for natural gas-powered vehicles increased from 25% to 35%.

• While used vehicles are generally banned, used electric and hybrid cars may be imported as part of Egypt’s initiative to promote eco-friendly transport.
